Quarantine

"Quarantine" is a part of an installation project. It's a fabric sculpture composed of garments once worn by a community of breast cancer survivors, gathered and reshaped into the form of a female torso. One breast is absent; the body bears the mark of removal. Below, a zipper seals the space of the vagina—an image of silenced cycles, early menopause, and the loss of fertility brought on by treatment.

The use of shared clothing carries the imprint of many lives, many bodies, many histories, stitched into a single form. This collective material transforms the figure into more than an individual—it becomes a vessel of communal experience.

The title "Quarantine" speaks to a body set apart, distanced from culturally defined notions of femininity. It reflects not only physical isolation, but the emotional and psychological separation that can follow illness—where the body is no longer recognized within familiar narratives of womanhood, yet continues to exist, endure, and redefine itself.
